DVS PTA Programs


  • READ ALOUD DAY: This event is to be held on Thursday morning, November 20, 2008 during school hours, and is a fun day enjoyed by the students; members of the community are invited to read to our children. We currently need a committee of 2-3 people for this event to coordinate the readers, organize the refreshments and someone to organize the greeter volunteers.
  • PTA BULLETIN BOARD: Volunteers are needed to decorate the PTA bulletin board located opposite the school office. Designing, purchasing supplies, (reimbursed by the PTA) and putting up the decorations are the responsibilities of this position.
  • HOLIDAY FAIR: The Holiday Fair is to be held Saturday, November 22, 2008, from 9am-3pm. It includes crafters, raffles, games and crafts for the children, a visit from Santa and other fun activities. More people are needed to help our chairperson PLAN this event. Help will be needed to organize the childrenÕs room, raffles, and bake sale. (help wanted fliers for the day of the event will go out at a later date)
  • FUNDRAISING: We need people to form a fundraising committee. The fundraising committee will be in charge of getting the Fall and Spring fundraiser packets distributed to each classroom, collecting and tallying all order forms, counting all monies collected, and sending all orders in to the fundraising company.
  • BOX TOPS COORDINATOR: This is a job that can be done at home. Box tops 4 Education (General Mills) labels are sent in by children and then must be processed in order to be mailed for credit.
  • ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Coordinating dates with staff, cafeteria and custodial staff, sending out notices and collecting monies, and purchasing supplies are some duties of this position.
  • STAR READING PROGRAM: The PTA currently has an opening for someone to chair the STAR Reading Program. This reading incentive program runs from November to March and involves distributing calendars each month, awarding prizes etc. totaling total minutes by grade level etc. A committee of 2 to 3 people would be helpful with this program.
  • PTA CORPORATE FUNDRAISING: This is a job that can be done at home. Shaws will donate 1% of eligible register receipt amounts to Registered Non-Profit Organizations. We need someone to collect receipts and then mail them in to corporate for credit. This committee will also be in charge of the HannafordÕs promotion, Cartridges for Kids, and any other corporate promotions available.
  • 5TH GRADE YEARBOOK: DVS would once again like to provide outgoing 5th graders with a yearbook. This is a program that needs at least 2-3 people to run it. If you have a 5th grader and would like them to have a book of memories, now is the time to step forward. We would also like parents from other grades. This is not a 1-person job, we need your help.
  • BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB: A program designed to purchase books for the school library in honor of a student's birthday. A person is needed to work with the librarian to send out notices and plan the ceremonies to celebrate the donation of books.
  • BAKERS: A coordinator will telephone you ahead of time to ask for help with an upcoming event that requires refreshments.
  • STAFF APPRECIATION: We need a few folks interested in forming a committee to run special events and surprises for our Staff here at DVS. This event usually takes place the second full week of May.
  • AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSES: We are in need of someone to help organize and run the After School Enrichment Classes. We were able to run this event last year and it was a GREAT success. Over 150 students were able to participate in an after school program. We would like to get started in February. We also need parent volunteers with a special skill or hobby to teach classes. (Examples like: scrapbooking, woodworking, no bake cooking, stamping, beading, any sport activity etcÉÉ..)
  • TURN OFF THE TV WEEK: The PTA will be sponsoring our10th annual ÒTurn off the TV WeekÓ in April. We need a committee of people to choose which activities to have, send out notices to parents to get volunteers and oversee the set up and running of this week.
  • FESTIVAL OF AUTHORS & ILLUSTRATORS: This festival brings in children's authors & illustrators into the school for various workshops geared towards children. A committee is needed to assist in sending out notices & invitations to parents and area authors.
  • SECRET SANTA WORKSHOP: This event allows the students and their siblings to shop for their holiday gifts on their own or with the help of a volunteer. The items are usually at a minimal cost. We currently have a chairperson for this event, but are in need of a few additional people to help out.
  • POPCORN FRIDAYS: Each Friday, the PTA offers popcorn for students to purchase for snack. We need volunteers to pop, bag and distribute the popcorn. Help is needed in the school Friday mornings.
  • 5th Grade End of Year Party & T-Shirts: This event takes place in June. We will need a committee to work with the 5th grade teachers to plan the party. This committee would also be in charge of ordering the 5th Grade graduation T-Shirts that are worn at the 5th Grade Jr. Police Field Day.
  • REFLECTIONS: The PTA has an opening for someone to chair this years Reflections Art Program. This is an art program run in conjunction with the state and national levels. Responsibilities would be sending home fliers, collect art work and sending them to the state level for judging.
  • DVS Spirit Apparel: Last year, the PTA began offering DVS T-Shirts and Sweatshirts to any students, staff and family members that were interested in purchasing them. What a great way to show spirit and support our school! We will need a committee of 2 to 3 people to send home order forms, collect the orders, place the order and distribute the apparel when it comes in.
  • SCHOOL STORE: This person is responsible for ordering school store supplies and running the school store which takes place every Tuesday morning from 8:15 to 9 AM.
  • Program Volunteer Coordinator: This person would be in charge of collecting program volunteer forms, making phone calls to determine volunteerÕs availabilities and organizing the different program committees.
